Key Steps in the Injection Molding Process

What Is Injection Molding?

Injection molding is a molding method that combines injection and molding. The advantages of the injection molding method are fast production speed and high efficiency, the operation can be automated, there are many designs and colors, the shapes can be from simple to complex, and the sizes can be from large to small. The product dimensions are accurate, the products are easy to replace, and can be made into complex shapes Parts, injection molding is suitable for mass production and complex-shaped products and other molding processing fields.

The injection molding process involves six main steps.

Material selection

For the injection molding process, material selection is a very critical step. When selecting materials, comprehensive considerations need to be made based on the product’s usage environment, size, appearance and other factors. At the same time, factors such as material cost and recyclability also need to be considered when selecting materials.

Melt

The selected plastic particles (or powder) are placed in the feed hopper of the injection molding machine. After heating, the plastic material is melted to form a flowing rubber compound. In this process, the melting temperature and time need to be controlled to fully melt the plastic material.

Injection molding

The melted plastic material is injected into the mold through the injection molding machine, and the plastic material is injected into the mold of the desired shape according to the shape and size of the mold. During the entire injection molding process, parameters such as injection time, injection pressure, and injection speed need to be controlled.

Cooling

After the plastic material is injected into the mold, it needs to wait for a certain period of time to allow the rubber material to cool and solidify. In this process, cooling time and temperature need to be controlled. Before removing the mold, it is necessary to ensure that the plastic material has been fully cured, otherwise the product size and quality will be affected.

Open Mold

Remove the cured plastic product from the mold. During this process, it is necessary to control the mold open timing and intensity to ensure that the size and appearance of the product are intact.

Post-processing

For injection molded products, some post-processing work is also required, such as grinding, spraying, assembly, etc. These post-processing efforts can further improve the appearance and quality of the product.
